There are old railroad station buildings and railroad tracks remaining in Kayano district of Mikasa city. They are remnants of the coal industry “Horonai coalmine” which played the essential part of Hokkaido’s reclamation, and it is a place where you can feel a very historical. Now, the tranquil rural landscape spreads out in this area and the good crops are also produced in “Mikasa Suzuki farm”, which is the core of this project.
The contrast between past and present is very interesting. Also, it is very creative to send a message of “agriculture” and “gastronomy” to the future from this area where supported the reclamation time of Hokkaido. And Mikasa is located within about one hour from Sapporo, it is a perfect place to connect the city and the rural village, and also to provide many people with the goodness of Mikasa.
That is the reason why we do actions in Mikasa city and Kayano district.
About the association for creation of
agricultural gastronomy in Mikasa area.
We launched this association from the viewpoint of “agriculture” and “gastronomy” so that we could do something more fun in Mikasa.
In the summer of 2017, we reviewed this area and Mikasa Suzuki Farm throughout Mikasa area and found many interesting regional resources which are in both historically and locationally unique.
Therefore, we strongly believe in its possibility.
This project started in full swing in 2017. We planted seedlings of apple tree on “Mikasa Suzuki Farm” in Kayano and we are growing them as a symbol of this project.
As our association grows up with planted apples, we will challenge various things that can be done only in this area and send new Mikasa from Kayano district.
Also, we have started working on the farm stay so that it will be a contact point between the locals and young people and a base of connection between large cities and this area.
We also aim to contribute the local community in other activities.
Association for Creation of
agricultural gastronomy in Mikasa area
I was born in a farmhouse in Mikasa, and have been running an organic vegetable shop “Anne no mise” in Sapporo for many years.
Meanwhile I was worry about the future of my hometown Mikasa, and the “Rice Field Project” began with the idea of my companions who are connected in food sector in 2008.
Since then, we enjoy rice planting and harvest with many people every year.
And we established the Association so as to make it more beneficial to Mikasa and to provide many people with chance of enjoy this rural landscape.
Members of the Association are mainly made up of companions who have worked together for food promotion activities for many years.
Various members are supporting me, including Mikasa city, people related to the restaurant business, farmers, outdoor officials, broadcasting stations, painters, photographers, etc.
We would like to continue to boost Mikasa area with members of the Association and people who support and visit our project.
I hope to enjoy Mikasa with many people from now on.

While practicing the activities of “MIKASA Kayano Project”, we searched the best way to contribute to the Mikasa area. We would like many people to experience more specific “agriculture” and ” gastronomy ” of this area.
We are planning to open complex facilities such as accommodation in rural village and a restaurant utilizing beautiful ingredients from local producers here.
We will begin construction in 2018, and the facility will have an opening in the year after.
We will share the progress of the project on Instagram constantly. Please look forward to it!
